This is primarily a Tulane football blog, although I do occasionally comment on all matters Tulane that may or may not be any of my business. I love following Tulane Greenwave football, zing-zang Bloody Marys, hostessing cute tailgating parties, and life in New Orleans. It's fabulous. oh and I adore Mr. Hullabaloo. PS This blog is not affiliated in any way "officially" with Tulane University or Tulane Athletics. It is purely the crazy antics and obsessions of Mr. and Mrs. Hullabaloo who love them some greenwave (I say tee-ay (!) y'all).

Pra Caramba!

So this is me, shakin my booty with the ever fabulous first lady of TU Football, Angel Johnson to the Greenwave Brass Band in the third or fourth quarter. Yeah. fun times!

So it was about damn time.

We have been due a flipped script with UTEP. I have watched so many stupid games against CUSA teams go sideways for us, so it was high time.

moment captured by Michael DeMocker

I'll never forget our hail mary situation in 2008, Kevin Moore under center, Graf screaming "IF WE GET THIS, WE WILL BE ON SPORTSCENTER FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES!" We had been ahead most of the game, Andre Anderson was busting his tail all over the field, and then we let the game slip away 21-25 in the second half. Sigh.

So it was pretty funny to get this text from Chardonnay after the game yesterday.

Com Certeza, ha!

I will say that I am deee-lighted Coach Johnson has architected something out of nothing. But am I satisfied? uh, Hell No. This horrid conference we were trapped in and the mediocrity that was orchestrated since being handed the keys to the kingdom in 1998 cannot just be forgiven or forgotten because we beat a bad team on our way out the door. No sir.

But it was a momentary distraction fo' sho'.

I hope that the team is enjoying their season. Proud of the change in attitude. Proud effort they are making. But if TPTB makes amends by hiring Jaime Garza or get us into a P5 conference then maybe I'll revise my hardened opinions about where we've been and where we are.

Could you, like, imagine this behavior being tolerated at Corndog land?

So in summation: don't like hold your breath that I'ma lead a ticker tape parade down Poydras about the New Orleans Bowl.

They actually want us to pay $25 to "secure seats". Chile please, I have walked up and bought tickets minutes before kick off at that bowl, sat where I pleased and didn't have to worry my pretty little mind.

The sister-in-law of the late great Greenwave booster, CJ Lenz, is one of my girls. She marched right up to me at tailgating and gave me somekind of lecture about me needing a serious attitude adjustment. "Now listen here young lady, a bowl is a bowl!" ha ha! This, from the same lady who ditched standing in her friend's wedding to be at the '73 win over the bataan rouge corndogs. But honestly, it doesn't matter what I think about it because the Universe is in charge at this point.

The math involved for us to upgrade our situation is pretty crazy right now.

It's the slightest glimmer of hope for a better bowl and I refuse, refuse, refuse to go down without bitching even more than I already have. I mean I picked my man pie Coach Hullabaloo after all. So as you can see, I am not a settle for anything that just wanders along kind of girl. So anyways: I can't even believe that we have to go through these scenarios for many reasons including the fact that UTSA wasn't even a zygote for Katrina, but the deal is that UNT had to lose yesterday, which they did - but now UTSA is an upstart and could win the division unless Louisiana Tech somehow has a miracle next week at the Alamodome (The Bulldog Miracle! pray for it y'all. seriously pray, pray, pray!).

But my feeling is hows that for some bs an inaugural member of the SEC has to resort to? And CUSA would be so stupid to let a provisional team rob the conference of a potential Liberty Bowl payout, the biggest bowl payout for conference. UTSA is not eligible to play a bowl game this year and the numbers aren't there for them to get a bowl bid even if they win enough games. If UTSA gets to the CUSA championship, Liberty Bowl would go free agent for the CUSA slot and that would be all she wrote. It would be a lose-lose situation for everyone. Just wretched!

So anyways, the game: what a hoot. It was more of a touchdown derby with a Lorenzo Doss interception mixed in to keep things interesting. Look, more photeauxs by Michael DeMocker.

Marc Edwards catches his first TD

Sam Scofield being awesome

I'm watching the replay today on an actual TV and not a laptop, because well, I can - they are actually showing games on TV this season for the first time since like Hurricane Georges.

When's the last season we had for real college luxuries like TV replays? Progress.

And speaking of luxuries: our tailgate food was Lindo Maravilhoso, Otimo!

In honor of our mighty Brazilian, our resident Lou Groza Award winning kicker, Cairo Santos, we chose a Brazilian theme for our senior game tailgating and word, it was some kinda good. And it was so great because everybody went out of their comfort zone and executed these exotic recipes flawlessly.

Priscilla brought the star of the show: grilled Tri Tip cut of sirloin, also known as "Picanha" and it was some kinda good. Our Band Mom whom I'll call Tupelo Honey brought chimichurri sauce to pair with the steak, which was exceptional.

Peggy brought traditional brazilian chicken salad, or Salpicao....word.

Whoever decided in Brazil that shoe string potatoes needed to be in chicken salad deserves a prize. Peggy's friend Marlene brought us some lovely brazilian rice, which went nicely with some "feijoada" I picked up from a Brazilian cafe out on Williams in Kennah Brah. Feijoada is basically red beans, but with pinto beans instead of red beans.

One of my sorority sisters joined our tailgating group, I'll call her Ginger. Ginger made a brazilian twist on spinach dip using hearts of palm ("palmitos") and kale and it was boss.

Coach Hullabaloo even contributed and made chorizo "Bolinhos" which are mashed yucca stuffed pillows of heavenly-ness.

We rounded out the treats of the day with an interesting version of brazilian carrot cake that is topped with chocolate ganache, which sounds like an odd pairing, but was actually very tasty. Also making a cameo were some Pao de Queijo rolls and then I made a coconut/ginger/tomato sauce to nestle some grilled chicken drumettes in.

Ok so most recipes are on my pinterest page, but here are a few of the standouts:

A NO FAIL CHIMICHURRI
cup of fresh parsley leaves
3-4 garlic cloves (the more the merrier)
2 tbs fresh oregano leaves (or 2 TSP dried)
1/2 cup olive erl
2 tbsp wine vinegar (red, white, no matter)
Tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Ok, so gathering the ingredients is the hard part. Toss in a blender or bullet and whiz everything together. Slather onto your steaks and like just die from happiness.

CASTELO AND PALMITOS DIP
6-8 garlic cloves
2 tbsp olive erl
one 14-16 oz can of hearts of palm
5 cups of kale, chopped small
halfa cup of milk
8 oz pack of cream cheese, room temp
half cup sour cream
salt and black pepper
cup of parmesan

Preheat oven to 350 and grease a baking dish. On the stove, saute garlic in olive erl, add hearts of palm and mix, add kale and give it all a whirl. Turn off heat, add milk and cream cheese and mix through. Then add sour cream and parm, salt and pepper to taste. Pour deliciousness into the baking dish and bake for 25 minutes.

BOLINHOS DE CHORIZO
1 large yucca/cassava root
1 egg
2 Tbsp coconut flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
salt & pepper to taste
1/2 lb chorizo
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Saute chorizo in a pan until cooked, add chopped onion and stir through until translucent. Turn off heat and add chopped cilantro, stir through until well distributed. Set aside to cool to room temp. Peel your casava/yucca and then cut into 2 inch chunks. Boil in salted water until fork tender. Drain and mash like mashed taters. Add coconout flour, garlic powder and s+p to taste as you mash. Mold mashed yucca into balls, dust with coconut flour to keep from getting sticky and then mush/press a hole with your thumb to flatten out a bit, fill with a tablespoon of chorizo filling and then roll back up into a ball with a dust of coconut flour. Fry em up in a pan until golden brown and then keep yourself from eating the whole batch.

SALPICAO
1 whole skinless chicken breast poached in seasoned water, shredded
2 medium carrots, peeled and grated
1/2 cup corn
1/2 cup peas
2 small granny smith apples cubed
1/3 cup seedless raisins, or dried apricots or dried figs, chopped
1 small red onion, finely chopped
1 1/2 cup mayo
1 package shoestring potatoes
1/2 cup of olives
1/2 cup of heart of palms (cut in cubes)
Salt and pepper

Ok, the ingredients are the hard part. And maybe the elbow grease you need to mix everything together. So combine everything and then s+p to taste. And be astounded by the deliciousness.

Big Loss According to Big Mike

"Thank God for Breast Cancer!"

"I WANT Breast Cancer, put me out of my misery!"

"Toledo and Price are Friends? WHAT a Friend!!!"

"BIG 12?! The SUNBELT won't want us!"

omg it was hilarious. Big Mike came out with his pink Tulane shirt, just spitting out a rainstorm. I could hear him across the parking lot.

Big Mike had some competition on the outrage though. Coach Hullabaloo came out of the dome because Robert Kelly's touchdown was taken away from him by the Zebras. and he was fit to be tied. I was a little concerned, so I made sure to have a plate ready for him by the time he got to the car. Distract him a little with the food.

You see, I was already perched in my tailgating chair before the game was over so I got to witness all of this. Yes, it was very un-Mrs. Hullabaloo of me. But ya know, we had good eats leftover from tailgating and an ice chest full of drinks still. I turned the car radio on, settled in my trusty tailgate chair and got to wave good bye to everybody else leavin.

Booty and I started cutting up, laughing and then starting singing "Good Bye! Farewell! Auf Weidersehn Good bye!" "Adieu, Adieu, To you and you and you!" ...you know, to Coach Toledo our athletic misdirector the departing fans as they drove out of the parking lot.

I wasn't that bad of a fan. at least I was still in the area of the stadium ya know. I still have a little bit of a pause though, cause I don't want to be sporting tire tracks yet again from getting tossed under a bus and trotted out again as the excuse for why we lost.

Anyways as insurance against being labeled a scapegoat, I resisted my "naysaying" ways and decided during the game to get behind Up The Middle TM. Cause honestly, I am tired tired of complaining about it. So I started cheering "Yay! Up The Middle!"

Hoo-ray, Hoo-ray, Up! Da! Middle!

Lisa and Mrs. VOW were cracking up. If I had pom poms, I would have been shaking them every time Toledo called Up The Middle TM.

But then Booty came off her shift and so I asked her if she wanted to help me polish off our ice chest and she said, but of course! So there we were just taking all of this in.

SMU just beat UCF by a. LOT. ya know. So instead of grabbing onto my ankles for the rest of the season I think I am just gonna have to continue to enjoy my tailgating. BBQ next week y'all. Always a fan favorite.

Roll tide? Wave!*

*did y'all catch that during the game? the stadium announcer?! what was that story?!

The Search for "Anonymous_Tulanian"

I am on a mission y'all. and if there's one thing you, my dear readers, may learn from reading my drivel is that I am stupid stubborn. It drives Coach Hullabaloo nuts what I do and say sometimes. But I am persistent when I get my brain on something. Anyways, I'll let y'all know what I am up to in a moment.

So things have been a little unsettled in the Hullabaloo world the past few days. Instead of the anticipation-laden weeks leading up to football season with pre-tailgate paloozas and new recipe sharing, new outfits and such, the tubes are just awash in some soul searching discussions about the state of our football program.

Under condition of anonymity (just kidding, I just say this cause it makes it sound like I did some official investigating, which I did not. Nope, just your everyday New Orleans gossiping to blame) Mrs. Hullabaloo has learned that TPTB has hired The Aspire Group to lead their ticket selling and marketng efforts. Outsourced that task to "Experts." The search for a brand new Ticket Guru and Ticket Intern is underway. An Aspire consultant was brought in to New Orleans and a roundtable held with different factions of the Greenie Dat Nation: students, local fans, former athletes, and faculty for concerns and suggestions.

Clearly, Mrs. Hullabaloo has too many unvarnished opinions, so I was not included in these discussions. But the discussion seemed to have been interestng nonetheless without Mrs. Hullabaloo's input. I don't know if Aspire invited members of the Tulane family who do not attend games, because I think that discussion may have been more interesting in lieu of hearing Greenie Dats beat a dead horse.

First of all: are you sitting down? Because you need to be sitting down for this. I found out that Big Mike is the holder of a bonafide Bachelor of Arts in English from The Tulane University of Louisiana. Holy Facundus, right? What's more: on a full scholarship. Yes ma'am! And is the son of a former Tulane football player. That his father was a football player wasn't such a shocking discovery as that Big Mike is a multi-faceted individual. See: this is what I love about die hard Greenie Dats. Who knew, right? When I called Coach Hullabaloo and continued the gossip wheel about the Aspire Roundtables, halfway through my discourse he interrupted me and said "Hold On. I'm still trying to get over that Big Mike was an English major." Talk about LMAO.

All of the usual laundry list items were brought up with these poor Aspire consultants who I don't know quite expected the barrage of dysfunction that entails being a member of the Greenie Dat Nation. See, I'm not the only one with a complaint or something to say. While I bleed olive and blue and love it fiercely, this is hard work not just to endure foolishness, but you've got to have a the nose of an ardvark to uncover cute Greenwave gear in the market place, and master gameday tailgating under challenging conditions. I swear I don't know how Coach Toledo is able to remain a gentleman at all times and refrain from running screaming down Willow Street. But I pray to sweet baby Jesus that I be blessed his demeanor and manners sometimes. Cause this frustration can get the better of Mrs. Hullabaloo on more than one occasion.

As you know from my earlier post, Ticket sales is just but a mere symptom of larger systemic issues that have been documented on the Greenie Dat internet tubes all over. I need not rehash.

So then next on the list is that it came to Mrs. Hullabaloo's attention that Outreach Tulane is the same day as our opening game against Southeastern. You can just imagine that Mrs. Hullabaloo was fit to be tied, especially after this stadium size and 90% fundraising business and the stirring up of emotions from the Roundtables. Yes, I know that I may end up straight in hell for considering that a football game has higher priority than carrying out God's work thru charity. But as a well-raised Texas Girl I feel I have got my priorities straight.

(I feel like a stern parent here lecturing an unruly child. You WILL go to Tailgate. You WILL watch the Game. and You WILL enjoy it. I don't care if you don't wanna. Hilarious, right? LOL!)

Listen, Mrs. Hullabaloo is refusing a FREE trip in November to the very beautiful Buenos Aires to attend a baby christening (for the lovely couple who ruined the 2009 UTEP game for me by deciding to get married during football season). There is nothing in this world that I love (besides my husband. and my fur babies. and yes, of course the Wave) than good food eatin' and good shopping. Buenos Aires has these in spades. You have to want to find bad food and bad shopping in Buenos Aires. Yes Mrs. Hullabaloo will not budge. I do not take extraneous vacations during football season. It is too critical. I had surgery once the morning of a game and went anyways.

Now, to be fair - the ever-patient and hardworking, Jason Potuto and staff at the Wilson Center is working with Outreach to get kids to the dome in time for a tailgate lunch and then we all need to collectively hope and pray that the chirren actually stay to support and cheer the team.

But this is the tide that Greenie Dats labor with. So you can understand how frustrating it is to compete against a volunteer program that pulls hundreds and hundreds of students, faculty and family out to go paint an elementary school. Yes I will burn in hell for feeling this way. These wonderful and blessed souls are moving heaven and earth to do good will towards man. But it has to be on game day? and I can't help but wondering why the same fervor can't be made to round up these crowds to go say "We Support You" to their fellow classmates and students who represent them. It is quite a pickle.

Not all Tulane faculty is dense in the football schedule department. Waveprofessora is an exceptional exception to the general rule. I do love her and her Tailgating Krewe.

But all of this leads me to the title of today's post. WHO IS THIS MISGUIDED FACULTY PERSON AT TULANE? click to read his Nola.com comments. I am on a mission my fellow Greenie Dats. You must help me find this individual and stage an intervention! Putting all of his misinformation aside, can you believe what he said about the athletes? Or that he is annoyed by the offer for Free Tickets (well, then give them to me!)? Talk about OMG.

So Picture this: Mrs. Hullabaloo hosting Anonymous_Tulanian at a Hullabaloo Huddle tailgating. Serving him one of our fabulous tailgate concoctions, some of Priscilla's world famous brisket. and watching him eat his words. Or better yet - filling up his office with Greenwave gift baskets until he can bear it no longer. Or taping his eyes open and forcing him to watch the 98 season DVD over and over. Or The Greatest Play Never Made (Tulane-LSU 2009). Or Alex Carlton kicking WIDE RIGHT!

I'm on a mission - I am gonna find this character and kill him with kindess! My goal is to one day do a SuperFan profile on Anonymous_Tulanian.

You just see.

Love and Light to Scott Cody

Nobody doubts that Coach and Mrs. Hullabaloo are fierce defenders of the Green Wave. Fo Shizzle.

So during the course of valiantly holding the New Orleans media accountable to, like, do their job - we had the pleasure of making acquaintance with Miss Scott Cody of WWL-TV

For anybody who watched the "apology/making it up to us" segment of the Utep game on WWL on Monday at 5 - Coach and I feel we had a hand in that. Every single affiliate in New Orleans had the same excuse for not mentioning the score: They had technical difficulties getting feed from El Paso. All four stations? God forbid some sort of emergency situation happen if they can't even manage to get a sports bit like a freaking score.

There is a big difference in publishing a score and editing a segment. Yes we understand that Tulane is not your ticket to national news prominence so don't waste your time on editing segments. and also yes we understand that a game over 24 hours old is stale news. Unless of course it's LSU and then it is automatically deemed "newsworthy" regardless of the 24 hour cut-off requirement as specified by Miss Cody and can then be lazily inserted as excuse for "news" every single sports segment until the next time a horseshoe falls out of Les Miles' behind.

So after a slew of patronizing correspondence in which Miss Cody copied everyone (and I mean like did he not have Obama's or Pope Benedict's email on hand to include also or what?), Miss Cody finally admitted that indeed the Greenie Dat Nation was correct. We weren't blind or stupid, we didn't see what wasn't there, and WWL had indeed "embarrassingly" omitted coverage.

Replay of correspondence
(in condensed and embellished form of course):

Coach Hullabaloo: this is bull.

Miss Cody with carbon copy to the universe: You are Wrong AND we're going to take your picture!

Coach Hullabaloo: here's evidence of your bull.

Miss Cody without carbon copy to everyone: Alright, we omitted coverage, but the Texas Rangers mystically transported themselves and played on Sunday as did Auburn+LSU, which is why we only cover 23 hour old/SUNDAY events on Fourth Down on Four.

So anyways, Miss Cody has informed us that he'll be setting up early for the saints game joining the Greenie Dats this weekend at the Dome for the SMU game and specifically requested ample camera shots of our section. We are so very fortunate for such showering of attention by a celebrity of Miss Cody's caliber.

So in honor of Miss Cody's cameo, Peggy and I are circling the official Hullabaloo Huddle Welcome Wagon in anticipation of Her Highness and will make sure to give him our most esteemed and gracious welcoming.

Crawfish Attack!

I am happy to report that the Greenwave Pinched the Tails and Sucked Da Heads, Baby!

Here Mrs. Hullabaloo-icious with a long-lost Tulane classmate who also flew in for the game. I think the ambulance in the background was carrying leftover Miner @ss, since it had been handed to them.

Also, as you can see from my photo, it's not a complete game unless all Greenie fans are properly costumed. What was sort of funny was that he was scaring baby Miner fans. Oh no, crying babies.

and I'm not referring to the one UTEP idiot on the 50 ydl who would not shut up. This Miner fan was a complete child. I think Man Child had a man crush on Dezman Moses as he showered all of his pent up energy on Dez. What was just a classic "color" moment of the game was when after Alex Wacha got the final interception, the players turned around and dished it back to Man Child. And dude was hard core. Man Child gave a valiant, yet pathetic, last stand.

The Final Dis Replay
(imagine Man Child looks like the Mexican-American Comedian, Fluffy)

Unidentified Greenie turns around and bootie dances at Man Child. Man Child screams "I saw your mom do that last night in Juarez!" and starts peeling off dollar bills. Greenie yells back "and You've got bigger boobs that my mom!" Man Child ignores friend's plea that they just follow the rest of the UTEP stream out of the stadium. Man Child continues waving his dollar bill. Greenie yells "That must be all the money you got!" and then the players continue waving at Man Child as he finally runs out of gestures and ideas to make himself feel better about the Miner's choking.

Although I have to say Man Child was a little weak as far as opponents' idiot fans go. He was not nearly as vulgar as the Town and Gown approved idiots at UCF. And he didn't resort to the so very very infantile middle finger salute like LSU Grandmothers and Houston Cooter Fans generally opt for. If I recall, Man Child's loudest digs into Dezman Moses had something to do about making Gumbo? So it was really kind of easy to ignore him. I just thought it was funny that for the first time I've been witness to, our guys had some snappy things to say back.

So I also met this alum who drove in from Albuquerque, who is also appropriately costumed. Love this!

So we leave El Paso with a win. Thank You El Paso!

Dispatches from the Border

first of all - MEGA SHOPPING ALERT LADIES (!).

This A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E olive and blue reversible jacket at Target for $15.

Online Shopping Link Here

It's not puffy, so you don't look overstuffed and the colors are just perfect. RUN to your laptop or nearest Target and get one stat. Perfect for midweek baseball games. and the season is almost upon us, you know.

Now, for the dispatches: Everybody in El Paso has been SO nice! Imagine my surpise when we show up to the hotel with the team and we are welcomed with a BANNER and balloons (will post pic soon).

I say we ditch Tulsa and just keep UTEP games on our conference schedule. Maybe replace Tulsa with Memphis somehow. Cause I never wanna go back to Aslut, that was whack. ARE YOU READING THIS RICK DICKSON?

Anyways, we are STUCK with YET ANOTHER Tulane fan that roots for LSU. (and he's with us for at least another hour or so when we can lose him at tailgating). Talk about WTF. This one says if you are a native New Orleanean, you have to root for LSU. I call B.S. on that one. Helllloooo, I may not have been fortunate enough to be "native" but I know plenty more Tulane fans than the two I've encountered these past two weeks who would rather lose a limb than cheer for the tiggers.

Y'all know what I mean, right? Of course you do, otherwise you would have posted a nasty message like a random character did a few months ago trying to "educate" me about the error of my ways and that Billy Cannon truly is the second coming of the Mesiah (but just impersonating a degenerate gambler and counterfiter at the present time).

I think there must be some chromosonal misplacement with these poor misguided souls.

Anyways, back to cheering for Auburn while we wait for our bus to UTEP.

I'm "Essential" Y'all!

Hullabaloo Huddle is on Utep's Miner Rush website

I'm so honored!!! I am just KVELLING about the attention showered on my little Shtetl here on the internets!

Of course, we at Hullabaloo Huddle, have always felt our gameday recipes, olive+blue shopping tips, and copious chronicling of Tulane tailgating and gameday "color" - both home and away - to be absolutely E-ssential for every citizen of the Greenie Dat Nation. So we are just plum thrilled to actually be recongized as such.

To my wonderful Miner fans: Thank You and Mazel!

But for real, as much as I would love to give into the tempation of hogging the spotlight and try to bask in the glow of glory: All of you serious Miner Fans may want more testoterone x's and o's discussion of Tulane Athletics. So for Man Cave-worthy discussion, I would suggest the following forums as truly "Essential"

Don't Cry For Me

So Coach and Mrs. Hullabaloo were in Argentina last year for the "game of the year" last year when Tulane beat Utep in overtime.

Arggg...my excuse: my daddy made me go. Oy! One of his dearest closest friend's offspring was getting married. This had been daddy's friend since God was a boy and since these people had made the trip when Coach Hullabaloo and I tied the knot, he insisted that I had to do the same. No excuse was acceptable and believe me: we. tried.

Of course when I got back, e-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y asked where I was, they couldn't believe I wasn't there. Of all the fans to miss this game. yeah, yeah, yeah.

Coach Hullabaloo and I were staying at a dump hotel that had no internet and we were war driving a wireless connection from some cheap person with crappy bandwidth. We paid a zillion dollars online for all access that wasn't working and then thankfully happened upon Channelsurfing - but with our precarious broadband connection, we'd get every other play.

Here's a replay of us huddled over a laptop monitor while putting on tuxedos, gowns and panty hose and such: OMG Jeremy Williams caught the ball! Oh no, the connection is out...10 minutes later...wait, they scored.....10 minutes later....oh we scored.

We left the hotel at halftime, thinking we would be skating in to the church right before the Prince of Denmark March notes were struck on the organ.

But no. This bride apparently decided to chillax and meandered over to the church an hour late. If I could have screamed "YOU MADE ME MISS THE TULANE GAME FOR THIS?!" I totally would have. and really not cared that I had caused a scene.

Yep, I'm that diehard...

ps I think all these photos belonged to Dave Browning. I could be wrong though, so if you claim these photos: please advise and I will give you proper credit.

Backflip!

It's official. Time to Get Crunk. My season tickets arrived today. Section 143. The crazies. Hey: it takes ALL kinds mes petites choux.

I hope I get to see the little blue-haired cajun lady who married a member of the 1940something olive and blue football team. She's got some passionate lungs for a lady who wears perfectly tailored pant suits with immaculately groomed hair. Such a gem.

So accompanied with my season tickets was a "Fan Guide" and an "NCAA Booster Compliance" pamphlet. They're on to me, I tell you.

According to the "Fan Guide" no outside drinks and no obscene tee-shirts. and no socially unacceptable language, gestures or behavoir. and no standing, please.

???

Except for the standing part, I think this mailing was supposed to go to UCF. You know, Bachelor Vienna's alma mater. Thee with the "I'm a UCF B*ch" tee-shirt clad co-eds and assortment of idiot fans who unceaselessly scream obscenities at 40 y.o. women and defenseless college cheerleaders. Seriously. And a completely useless UCF cop just standing there denying that there's anything to be done about such behavior. I guess that's why we in New Orleans are able to peacably have occasions such as Mardi Gras and Superbowl Parades without fun quickly turning to tragedy, turned over cars lit on fire and mass hysteria. Acting out of hand quickly earns one a trip to Broad Street and an evening in Central Lockup.

UCF has these "Town & Gown" volunteers that is like spitting into a forest fire. It's like a welcome wagon-kind of organization made up of women who somehow meandered into the wrong campus destiny. "Thank you for coming to take our verbal abuse! We're so glad you are here. Come back and see us y'all!"

Bless their hearts, the Town & Gown's should have gone to Mississippi State or University of Alabama.

So anyways, Tulane season tickets have arrived!! Yay!

Included therewith (beyond the passive aggressive pamphlets to tell Mrs. Hullabaloo to please sit and to cease and desist encouraging Tulane Students' wity slogans for opponents. oh, remind me to tell you about the $80 tee shirt I bought off an underclassman's back) is a lovely booklet with letters from THE Roch Hontas, QB/M.D. and "California Cool" #11 Ryan Griffin.

Doctor Roch lovingly writes to us Tulane Faithful that he believes "2010 Tulane Football is all about promise and potential." Roch was our "David v. Goliath" quarterback. He was considered too short to go on professionally, but by all accounts of other Hullabaloo Huddler fans, Doctor Roch was The Real Deal when it came to Tulane quarterbacks.

Opposite in the pamphlet from Doctor Roch's encouraging message, our favorite California Cool musters up a passionate letter recalling our exciting win over UTEP! Which, did I mention that I had to go to a stupid wedding and miss! ME of all Tulane Fans, to miss THIS game. I shant ever forgive the newlyweds.

Ry writes, "My heart was racing. My emotions were running wild. As we celebrated on the sideline and with our fans I witnessed the passion that Tulanians have for their [..our?] university."

See friends, Ryan is such a quiet, unemotional guy that I find his letter absolutely endearing!

At the radio shows, he barely whispers his answers into the microphone and blushes continually throughout the excruciating inquisition-like interview conducted by the punishing hard-nose commentator, Tod Grafignini.

So it is truly impossible to picture Ryan's "emotions running wild." I keep imagining Robin Williams in The Birdcage coaching the uncooperative dancer that his part is to go wild Marcia Graham, Madonna, Fosee, Fosee, Fosee...but "keep it all inside."

It is such a contrast from the days of our lovable Anthony Scelfo leaving all his emotions on the superdome turf. Here, Times Picayune photos from the controversial out of bounds/clock/referee call Homecoming 2007.

Coach Toledo dutifully sent him some letters to the NCAA about this bullhockey refereering that occured. in our house for crying out loud.

When Tulane played the University of Alabma in 2008, post-hurricane Gustav, we met one of Ant'ny's cousins who was attending Bama. We were at a little watering hole within the shadows of their stadium - the name of the establishment has completely escaped me. Tulane fans, just picture Waldo's, but transplanted in Tuscaloosa. We meet a member of the Scelfo clan, and a round of adult refreshments was promptly treated to all of us Tulane fans. Everybody was so lovely even after they beat us fair and square. Talk about model Town & Gown treatment.

So cheers to a promising season, can't wait!
