This is primarily a Tulane football blog, although I do occasionally comment on all matters Tulane that may or may not be any of my business. I love following Tulane Greenwave football, zing-zang Bloody Marys, hostessing cute tailgating parties, and life in New Orleans. It's fabulous. oh and I adore Mr. Hullabaloo. PS This blog is not affiliated in any way "officially" with Tulane University or Tulane Athletics. It is purely the crazy antics and obsessions of Mr. and Mrs. Hullabaloo who love them some greenwave (I say tee-ay (!) y'all).

Crime on Campus

I'd like to report a crime!

The new Riptide creeps me out. I like silly rasta riptide. I wonder what he did to get banished.

Hey now .... if a $500 robbery can garner headlines, then maybe the $925,000 head coaching salary on top of the checks being collected by the man responsible for the hire (who is currently on this extended retirement situation) can also get some sort of attention. Maybe.

Y'all. I am seriously beginning to give credence that this is all just a case study being conducted by Tulane and that there is a textbook being written for Sports Management classes: "How to Sell Losing, Hide it From Your Alumni, and Stick It To Your Fans" with the subtitle "All While Getting Paid To Do It!"

I mentioned on twitter that I might do a football pool for this week's press conference/radio show with each of the squares being a different excuse. $10 per square. Who's in?!

As you read this the former employer of our current OC beat Ole Miss 37-24. And their band played "We're Not Gonna Take It" to close out the game lol. And ESPN replayed former Coach Tommy West reading the riot act when he resigned about how Memphis needed to get behind the program in order to win. But meanwhile we in the Greenwave Nation aren't allowed to dare to dream.

Coach Hullabaloo believes that we were no less than Houston. I agree, except for them slicing through our line like butter. But as far as Ass Kickings go that I've been through in my 25 years of being a Tulane Fan - this one actually was not among the worst. I was expecting wham-bam-pow right in the kisser from the get go, but it was a smooth trickle. Very much a soft landing on the tushie. According to Toledo's measuring stick, we are losing better now I guess (remember that? lol).

Anyways, my friend who I call my Cajun Queen posted on my facebook this morning that she sure wished it had been a win, but since this is her team she will not turn her back on them. Oh my goodness I just love her! She is such a doll and I am such an awful cynic. So it reminded me to point out the positives: things like that we looked super cute at the game yesterday.

I bought my dress for $8 at WalMart (yes girl! come follow my pinterest gameday shopping page). I styled Coach Hullabaloo with a cute dress shirt I found at SteinMart. When life feels like it is spinning out of control, go shopping. Like perhaps maybe at --> www.greenwavegear.com

And another somewhat positive is that in honor of Punting being so effective and in demand yesterday, Tulane fashioned the programs accordingly. Very proactive, bravo.

The Marching Band's halftime performance was truly adorable. I wasn't sure how the "It had to Be You" cover was going to go, but it was really cute.

And how can I possibly wait this long to mention: Holy Trick Play Toledo, the highlight of the game, THE FAKE PUNT!

Again! Twice in one season!

And lemme tell you, I had some pretty bad karma hit me for being such an insufferable fan: literally at the moment that the team lined up for the punt, my contact lens crumpled up into the corner of my eye and I missed the play entirely! What?! How does that happen? The Universe tried to poke my eye out for being such a whiny baby complainer! lol Hilarious. Rolllllll Wave Rollllll!

Anyways, we didn't put up an official tailgate for our Hullabaloo Huddlers yesterday so I don't have any cute centerpieces or recipes to share. We just strolled around to all of our various friends' tailgatings which was a nice change of pace because we are usually so wrapped up entertaining people at our thing. Most of my chickadee students went home for fall break so I did not get to ply them with the heaping plates of yummy tailgating food which I normally do.

Coach Hullabaloo surely did enjoy the margaritas up in Westfeldt and afterwards we went to Dat Dog on Frenchmen.

I also very much enjoyed watching the Houston spirit organizations keep their fans pumped.

I must comment that with the departure of Kevin Sumlin that their fan base is now a whole other group of people. These people who came yesterday were actually civil and not nearly as trashy as the Cooters of Yore. Although whoever at Tulane Athletics approved of them bringing that bell really needs to be addressed, because what was up with that? Let's agree to not do that.

Anyways, I completely admired UH's spirit. Their fans cheered them coming on and off the field at the beginning of each half. Their band played and the dance team shook their booties the entire game. There was literally not one moment that anybody stood still over there. I salute them, Mrs. Hullabaloo was very impressed!

It was pretty big of a contrast to see their sideline versus ours and that pretty much encapsulates how their team was prepared/pumped in comparison to our $925,000 situation. And this is to OUR sideline music!

It made me sad to watch our team all still like they were watching a funeral. I was also sad that our team discipline has gotten to where a player thought it was ok to sass back at a ref like that. Excuse me, but no, we will not behave like that.

Coach and Mrs. Hullabaloo stayed til the end. Again.

We went over the student section to sway to the Alma Mater. Afterwards we shook hands with a few of the players who also thanked us for staying to watch them play (omg, just rip my heart out please)

Anchors Aweigh Greenies, Navy is next. Oy Vey.

Rice Rice Baby

A1A beachfront avenue! Ok....that doesn't quite work in this scenario, but whatever: Coach Hullabaloo and I are here in Houston with the team in our final mainland game of the Hutson-Toledo era. and Big News: we'll also be in Hawaii next week!

I'm preemptively writing now cuz we fly back today immediately after the game - literally they load us all up on the buses and zip straight to the airport. So I'll do a write up on Sunday since the Saints have a bye (just warning yous in advance cause y'all just race on to the webs and spike up the traffic here like a nano second after the game and I need some time to collect my thoughts).

Well it's a big day here in Houston regardless cause College Gameday is covering the SMU Houston game across town. Tis is a mini reunion of CUSA here in Houston. Hope Tulane brings it and we can therefor piggyback some media to counteract all of Tammy's bull the past few weeks. And all the blah blah about Old Man Keenum and his Cooters (aren't y'all like over it? a 40 year old up for the heisman! just kidding, he's not 40, but dernit I think I was still in college when he started playing).

And listen y'all what I want to counteract most: our woes this season are not cause we don't match up. No ma'am. Cuz after riding elevators with team members, our guys are most definitively "bigger, faster, stronger" (remember that ditty?). I was like WHOAH when I was standing next to them on the elevators. And the funniest thing was the plane ride. We took a Southwest charter and somehow the seating got bungled so instead of ample room allowing 2 to a row, everyone got crammed in side-by-side like sausages. To the flight attendant's credit, they did play our fight song over the speakers to get us riled up.

So it's almost time for kick off, so OccupyRice y'all! Let's finish strong!

Alright, Alright, Alright

Yeah Yeah Yeah - I flaked out on posting. It was a work day Friday so sue me.

Anyways, I really didn't pay attention to the game after the first half with all of the commotion going on up in the suites and all. It's ALL anybody can talk about so I need not discuss it further until the souffle is totally baked.* And no, ain't takin about Mathieu's locker.

*(well, one small note - everybody's got "a source" and Comedian Al's is hilarious. He claims he is sleeping with a friend of you know who's daughter. You know who's daughter is 15, so this would make Al a dirty old man. The bottom line is this: I can't wait for this to be concluded so that we can all come out in the open and say for real who knew what, when and how. Because the only people who don't know what's up are the media and Tammy Fletcher they are acting like fools)

But listen, everything is gonna be Alright. Coach Hutson is up for the head coaching position at Eastern Illinois, we have great candidates up for our open position and Tammy Nunez got exposed for the fool that I knew she was all along.

So we had a great Tailgate/Going Away for one of our favorite tailgatresses whose hubby has landed his dream job in the NFL. Quite exciting and we are so proud of her and her family moving on up.

It was our Texan Burger tailgate and I spent Thursday in the kitchen making Jalapeno Popper Dip (!), Chipotle mayo, Sandra Lee's southwest burgers and Cowboy caviar. The cowboy caviar was ok, I wouldn't call it a kepper. But the Jalapeno Popper Dip was simply amazing - and it actually tasted like jalapeno poppers! So Easy.

Word. I've already posted the Jalepeno Popper Dip once, but it's so good that it deserves to be reposted twice, three times. Whatever it takes.

LIFE CHANGING JALAPENO POPPER DIP
2 packages of softened cream cheese, room temp
1 cup mayo (yeah. this is not a low cal dip)
1 cup grated parm cheese divided
1 can diced jalapenos drained
2 fresh jalapenos sliced, seeds/ribs removed
1/4 cup bread crumbs

Let cream cheese sit out til it's soft soft. Preheat oven to 375. Mix together with a cup of mayo and half cup parm cheese. OK, do not try to do this by hand because you will die. I was dumb enough to do that. Use a mixer if you own one. Fold in your fresh and canned jalapenos. Pour mixture into a baking dish and scrape every last morsel out of the mixing bowl (I used an aluminum one that fit into our chaffing dish stand). Mix bread crumbs and remainder of parm cheese together and then crumble over top of the delicious creaminess. Pop into the oven and bake for 20 minutes or so until the bread crumbs are browned. Serve warm at tailgating and stand back because it will be gone.

What was most definitely not alright was this (!)

Pictured here, anonymously, is Colonel Reb. Our favorite Ole Miss Tulane Fan. Yes, they exist. He grew up lovin The Wave, but did his schoolin up in Oxford. He is a trip. Last week at SMU (yes he travels to away games also, so we see him often) I ended up getting a sideline pass and gave it to Colonel Reb. We started doing well and so we made him stay down there on the sideline. He loved it loved it, because he got to hear up close and personal the Greenies start trash talking the Ponies.

So you can imagine my surprise when he showed up at tailgates with that in his hand (!). Anyways, his story is that one of the Greenbackers sent their son to pick up a case of beer for him to bring to tailgate and said son purchased these. Seriously. Colonel Reb will drink anything, so they told him to take some. Well when he got to Mrs. Hullabaloo's tailgate we covered that puppy up with a Tulane koozie lest it leave us permanently scarred for life. For sure.

This was so funny that I couldn't wait to report on it.

Apparently a Greenie Dat is friends with a Cooter and they tried to sit near us in our section at some point in the first half. The Cooters scored and he jumped up and down and started hootin and hollerin like this was the first time he'd seen a touchdown. Coach Hullabaloo was livid. Peggy started wondering aloud who this fool was. So I decided to take the direct approach:
Cooter Fan: YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! That's what I'm talkin about!!!

Mrs. Hullabaloo: Hey! Hey! Hey You! (finally getting Cooter Fan's attention) When's your next workout video coming out?

Cooter Fan: What?

Coach Hullabalo: Yeah! Richard Simmons called and he wants his headband back!

It was hilarious. Look at Coach Hullabaloo acting sassy! Surpised the heck out of me. Peggy was still laughing to herself well into the third quarter over the headband comment. Cooter Fan tucked his tail between his legs and took off. But not before I snapped this picture of him silenced and his friend snickering at him.

After Cooter Fool had left, Peggy and I were miming "He's a Maniac! Maniac! on the floo-oor" .... He's a Cooter Town Fool on a Thursday night, looking for the fight of his life.. In the real time world, no one sees him at all ...They all say he's craa-zy..." Ok anybody not of the Flashdance Era will not get this Michael Sambella ditty.

Yes we were immature, but sooooooo worth it.

You know what else was worth it? Screaming to the ref who called an unsportsman-like or excessive hit or whatever penalty that was that spotted the Cooters yet another touchdown. It was quelle bull. Definitively. Earlier in the game a ref got taken out ice cold and wheeled off in a stretcher. I kept yelling that this other bogus ref needed to be taken out on a stretcher also. Cause it was pitiful.

Anyways, with the appearance of UTFM - I decided to social butterfly amongst my Greenie Dat peeps. I took this cute video of the Shockwave Dancers.

I just loved the little future shockwave dancer trying to imitate them! Chickadee's Newcomb little sister is a member of Shockwave, so I was glad to have some shots of her. The TU Brass Band is one of my favorite game day traditions.

Next to this one.

Isn't this cool? Will make me miss the dome when we move the games back to campus....

Yeah you rite!

I picked up this adorable pot holder at Big Lots for $1.50. C'est Cute, non? Mais oui!

I just finished watching Sandra Lee on Food TV - she is on my list of "favorite things." Today she shared with us the perfect idea for burgers for the tailgate for the Cooter game in November.

I think these Burgers will be awesome with the Cowboy Caviar (click for cowboy caviar recipe).

CHIPOTLE BURGERS (by Sandra Lee)
makes 4 patties
1 1/2 pounds ground meat of choice (beef, turkey)
2 tablespoons Tex-Mex chili seasoning (Casa Fiesta* brand at Rouse's is from New Iberia y'all and I love it)
2 teaspoons chipotles in adobo sauce (Find this at Rouse's or if you dare to venture: The Ideal Market on North Broad)
1/4 cup beer of choice (Sandra used Corona)
Salt and pepper
Sliced pepper Jack cheese
Sliced Alligator Pears (Avocados)

Take chipotles, slice open and scrape out the seeds. Discard said seeds, but don't drain of the adobo sauce. Seed removal is so you don't kill any tailgaters who don't like fire hot spicy food. Chop up the chipotles and set aside.

So take your mixed chili seasoning, 2 teaspoons of the chopped chipotles sans seeds, smidge of the adobo sauce and combine with your ground beef and beer. Really work your hands in there to make sure everything is combined. Shake some salt and pepper on there for good measure and then make your patties. A roll of wax paper in your pantry is essential at this point so you can stack your patties individually to transport to tailgating.

Grill 3-4 mins on each side and then about 2-3 mins before being done, add the slided pepper jack cheese to melt. Serve on a bun garnished with sliced avocado and a schmear of chipotle mayo. You can also dress it with lettuce, tomaters and a grileld red onion too. Or Honduran Cole Slaw (yummmmm)

CHIPOTLE MAYO inspired by Sandra Lee
1 1/2 teaspoons chipotles in adobo sauce
3/4 cup mayonnaise
squirt of lime juice
sprinkle of ground or chopped cilantro

Slice open the chipotles, and scrape out the seeds (so that people who don't like spicy foods don't die). Then mince up that chipotle, add in to the mayonnaise, squirt just a touch of lime juice and sprinkle with ground cilantro or finely chopped cilantro (just a smidge though to give a HINT of flavor) and then whip it up. Cover and refrigerate or keep on ice in your cooler until ready to garnish the burgers.

Just a note about Casa Fiesta brand - I love this brand. They also make "Louisiana" Brand hot sauce. Anyways, I called Casa Fiesta HQ and told them how much I love their stuff and they sent me some $1 off coupons for my extreme couponing venture that I am on right now (Yes! For Reals, I am stockpiling).

The reason why I am enamoured just so with Casa Fiesta is because Mrs. Hullabaloo has been ordered to follow a special diet per the doctors. Very unfun, I know - but I have been making it fun nonetheless. Casa Fiesta doesn't have all of the weird ingredients that many of the other brands have that might make you grow a third eye or something. The ingredient list is plain and simple. Their taco shells are gluten-wheat free and are made with coconut oil, which is a healthful high temp cooking oil for those of us on anti-inflammatory diets. So y'all go on and make your Casa a Fiesta ~ Ole!

While on the same note of latin flavors, I mentioned Honduran Coleslaw cause Coach and Mrs. Hullabaloo had a life changing lunch in Gert Town. YES! We took our life in our own hands and went to Telamar Restaurant on Washington Avenue (next to the Rhodes Funeral Home at Washington+Broad). OMG, the cabbage was mixed with a tangy red mayo sauce and was delish. Telamar serves this deliciousness with their pork chops or fried chicken on a bed of plantains. Don't let the sideways glances from the other patrons detain you trying to figure out their English Optional menu. It is a scary good meal. I say scary cause half the time you are scared to death about getting mugged or worse in that parking lot, but you are just glued to the deliciousness of the meal they have just served you.

Have a wonderful weekend my chickens! Just a few weeks to tailgating!!!

FREE CHE!

So in honor of playing the Tigers today, you, my dear readers get a treat. A SuperFan TM post.

Yay! It's been a long time I know. I've been wanting to do one on Mr. Koozie for a while, but he faxed me his responses and Mrs. Hullabaloo wishes she had the time to retype. So that will come when I can dedicate some moments for that. I promise it will be soon.

So for any of you who are lucky enough to secure seating in section 110 at Turchin, you will know Che.

Last month, I bet Che that Tulane would take the series from Ole Miss. He laughed at me silly. and so we bet a Felipe's margarita on it. I am still waiting for my Margarita!

Che always has snappy comebacks that keeps us in stitches. Really, he has some gems.

So Che is hilarious and an indispensable member of Section 110. and Now officially a Martyr. Che officially took one for the team.

On Saturday after our fabulous Spring Tailgating Festivus, we watched game 2 of the UH series. Coach and I took our time getting in to the game since we were taking things down. Just as we walked in to the stadium: All. Hell. Broke. Loose.

Oh my goodness Greenie Dats. I swear I felt the Earth shake with everybody on their feet angry and yelling. Houston had hit a foul ball out to third base and it was foul by a mile. The ref called it fair allowing Houston two free runs. It was just so blatant. and Horrid. and Wretched.

If Greenie Dats didn't have better manners, we would have swarmed the field and lynched the ref. Tarred and Feathered him like he deserved. So we did the second best thing and screamed at the Ref "Hey Ref, You Suck!"

Che, however, got the refs attention by screaming "Hey Ref! Hey You! You! Hey Ref!" until he turned around to look at us. and then Che said the same thing we were all screaming "You Suck!!!" And that apparently crossed the line for ref. To point out the obvious. Or to say it louder than our other fellow patriots in Section 110. Whatever. So he had Che tossed.

Talk about WTF.

Mr. Koozie went out the box. "Toss us All Out!" Koozie yelled. We all stood up and screamed for the refs to toss us all out also. In my mind I was thinking, Coach Hullabaloo is going to have to bail me out of jail or something cause I was gonna go too! I was totally swept up into the emotion of the moment. It was pretty funny cause across the stadium peeps thought Peggy was getting tossed by the way we were all reacting.

So Che was escorted out of the stadium with everybody cheering and shaking his hand. Che kept exile at Felipe's for the remainder of the game.

and I promptly set up a FREE CHE facebook page. I swear, it's true. We have members and everything.

I closely monitored the news about this dreadful situation. Finally, news came in that the Ref Who Sucks, actually apologized to Coach Jones and to Jeremy Shaeffer for his putrid call. But there is still no apology to our dear Che.

So now on to my interview with our exiled revolutionary, Che:

How and When did you know you were a true Tulane fan?

When I was 10 yrs old back in 1978. The only Tulane fan in a family of LSU fans. My grandmother she's the Wave fan of the family and I went that way and have been a Tulane fan ever since. With her being the Tulane fan, she would take me to Wave football games in the Superdome.

What was the #1 most exciting/memorable moment for you as a Tulane fan?

Actually a few fave moments: 1979 Liberty Bowl, 1998 undefeated football season, 2001 & 2005 College World Series Appearances and 2002 Hawai'i Bowl Champs (Don't we all Che? Don't we all...)

Which is your #1 favorite Tulane student athlete (past or current)?

Roch Hontas

Do you have any pre-game rituals or lucky outfits/accessories?

I don't have lucky outfits but do have 2 favorite jerseys: Brandon Belanger & Roch Hontas. I got the Brandon Belanger jersey back when the Tualne sports shop used to have "garage sales" and sold game used jerseys. I actually bought 3 jerseys that day, the Brandon Belanger and Joe Akin & Jim Ordeneaux football jerseys from 98. The Brandon Belanger jersey is special to me because when he first base coach I had him sign it (which he gratefully did) after the season and he remarked that it made him feel good that we (me and group of friends that sat on 1st base side) were always out there cheering the Wave on. The Roch Hontas jersey I only bought recently from the Tulane sports shop, it was for me a must have jersey because he was always my fave Wave QB. I don't mean that has a slight to Shaun King, Patrick Ramsey or JP Losman. (of course not Che! no offense taken)

Are there any past Tulane fans that you have admired and thankful you got to know?

A good friend of mine Mr. Ray Robbins who unfortunately passed away before the opening of new Turchin Stadium. When I got the Navy in 96 I really started attending a lot of Wave games and sat on the 1st base side of old Turchin with him and we just hit it off instantly. Mr. Ray was the type of fan who has seen it all. And to be perdectly honest, probably forgot more about Tualne than I will ever know, he had season football tix when they played at Tulane Stadium. From going to games with him, we became real good friends started going to road games vs USM and LSU at Alex Box. The one ritual we had was after Saturday home baseball games we would always go to Liuzza's on Bienville Street for supper. I know he truly would've loved the way new Turchin turned out. (Liuzza's, say no more. So delish. Plus this ice cold schooners of beer. hmmmm...heaven.)

and Che adds:

Besides the jersey's I do have some memrobilia that is special to me: mini helmet signed by Shaun King & JuJuan Dawson, Washington Redskins mini helmet signed by Patrick Ramsey, baseballs signed by the 2001 & 2005 teams. Although it is unsigned, I have never seen another one like it: a 1982 era mini helmet.

See! I told you he was a SuperFan TM.....

Let's Digress

Yes, Let's Digress!

Orlando is boring and pristine. New Orleans is scuzzy (but we love it so!). UCF fans are an embarassment. UCF marked their only top 25 appearance by promptly losing to USM (snicker!). Shasta is a silly mascot name. Crazy Ole Miss Fanettes dress and apply makeup in the dark. Tulsans eat corn. Yes, these are things we know....

But seriously, I do want to digress. I want digress all the way back to Mrs. Hullabaloo's favorite moments in Tulane Athletics ....

Enjoy! (thank you to Noladave and FanBase for the photos)

Deliverance is Coming to Town

Yes, this is the Oregon Duck and has nothing really to do with Tulane at all except that he is my favorite college mascot of all time. Especially for the episode caught in this photograph of having his way with the Cooter. Anytime we can bring the Cooters down a few notches is worth noting in my opinion. Did you know that UH actually got o-ffended and wrote a letter? I'm sure that was a group scribbling activity. I mean like they know how to write? But more shocking and funny is that they were offended. Well, I'll be. The Crass Cooters actually have the nerve to look at that duck sideways and complain. The full video is below. Sooooo funny!

Everybody raise your hand if you've ever wanted to see Riptide do the same! Hell to the yeah!

Well, I hate to tell you! I have just been stumped on what to write about to y'all on this pre-game post. I know, Coach Hullabaloo is just shocked, simply shocked that I a) don't have an opinion on something and b) have nothing to say.

So I tried to go hunting for USM jokes out on the webs to share with you. And well, that well's kinda dry. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. Kinda seems like they're irrelevant in Mississippi or something.

So they only "jokes" I really ran across was that everybody asking why they use The Iowa Hawkeye logo. That is an excellent question that needs to be gotten to the bottom of. I'll need to annoy the Mustard Buzzards with that. and maybe also annoyingly ask them "Hey, where exactly is USM?" and then follow up with "Where?" or "Hey! Nice tooth ya got there!"

I did find this one joke that was somewhat humorous and very unlady-like. But since we at Tulane have had to endure away games in Starkvegas and Hattiesvegas where a big night out is at the Country Buffet - emphasis on "big" - I admit I did chuckle at this joke. So here it is presented to you.
What's the difference between MSU and USM?
At MSU they raise livestock, at USM they get emotionally involved....
Ohhhh noooo.....(!)

Okay, so here it is the Duck bringing it. and LOL on the shimmy - and what about the one Cooter Cheerfollower just standing there and watching?

Happy Pre-game day!

Wicked!

First - my sincerest apology to my dear fans that I did not have a blog post whipped out to share first thing Sunday morning. I was so exhausted from that unbearable Hot as Hades, Mojave-type conditions in that horrible concrete stadium that we went straight to the hotel to clean up, sleep and then hit the road Sunday to be back Chez Nous.

My biggest disapointment HAS got to be UAB losing to Tennessee - what a game, huh?! I wish that they'd won!!

So Coach and Mrs. Hullabaloo were tres hereux to be "Bienvenue en Louisiane" Sunday afternoon. Just in time to catch Sean Payton ice a blocked kick. BOOOO - those suck Coach Payton! Can that call, OK?

I know, I know! You are all extremely anxious to hear my reporting about Cooter Day, so I will get right to it!

Did I expect Tulane to win? No, I really didn't. So I was just ecstatic with our second and third quarter performance. And ecstatic that we sacked Broadway as often as we did.

(all football photos below courtesy of the AP)

When we woke up Sunday morning I turned to Coach Hullabaloo, laughed and asked "Were we really first and ten at the Houston 30 and then it turned into 4th and 43? Or was that a wicked dream?"

Ha! Coach Hullabalo laughed and said, that was the fastest drive down the field he'd ever seen. He just didn't expect for it to be in reverse.

Oh, the typical weekend of a Tulane fan. sigh.

Clearly we have talent on our football team. We will just have to faithfully await our Coaching Messiah to lead our Greewave Rennaissance. I feel he will be coming soon.

Which reminds me that I'll need to go ask my witch/spiritual adviser, Jade, about that on my next trip to Jackson Square. I've met her personally and she is really, really good at her tarot readings. I am dead as a doornail serious. Seriously, I read this post from a Kentucky Wildcat. I then googled about that year's tourney, my jaw dropped on the ground at her accuracy and just had to go find her. But alas I plum forgot to ask her about my sports teams during my reading. I assure you it's true she has no teeth and wears pentagram star dangle earings. She also drinks blood, which completely freaks me out I admit.

Speaking of bloodsucking vampires - New Orleans VooDoo season tickets are on sale now.

One word about spiritualists - just because they give accurate readings, doesn't mean you are actually going to like what they have to say or that it's going to be what you want to hear.

So back to the topic at hand: How about Kevin Moore having some flashes of brilliance there on those back to back TD's?!?

Payten Jason back grinding it out on the field again!!!

Devin Figaro is starting to show some Robert Meachem promise!

and Trent Mackey is da man! And how about Cody Sparks first college Touch Down!?!?!

So Despite that ridiculous 4th and 43 stack of penalties and some I'd-rather-soon-forget-flashbacks of Kevin Moore throwing at people's feet, I must comment that not going for it on 4th down in the 2nd half (in lieu of kicking 50 yards) and then trying for 2 were really some stupid coaching calls.

We just need a new architect at the helm is all.

All in all, the Cooters did not disappoint in amusing me. Although I have to say that I was really looking forward to seeing the latest in gangsta fashions and disappointed they were all no-shows. I guess they don't come out for day games.

There was, however, a group of aging men who appeared old enough to know better - or at least should have picked up some manners of somesort by the looks of their age. They were seated along the 30 yard line on the sideline with their girlfriends and wives. Next to their section of seating were the Greenwave Coaches football wives, including our very own Greenwave Jackie-O, Elaine Toledo. I don't know how she manages to keep her hair and appearnce looking perfect under every weather condition and just always sparkling personality no matter what the scoreboard reads. I will miss her.

So these typical classy Cooter fans were sitting there cussing at our players and giving them the bird, right by our coaches wives! And the Cooter wives/girlfriends just chatting away amidst amongst themselves as if such behavior were acceptable. I was embarrassed for them.

and OMG on the Ranchera and Norteno tailgating music festival at Robertson Stadium. Yes, I am entitled to my petty opinions. Go Get your own blog if you didn't find that funny. Because I did and shall therefor comment on it as I please.

Additional photographic proof of The Cooter Classiness

I had the most wonderful opportunity to meet Greenwaver Dot and her fabulous family. Dot and her family shared some amazing Fried Chicken with us that was fried up fresh right there at tailgating. We are talking Fiorella's and Willie Mae's worthy fried chicken y'all. Can't wait to part-ay with Dot in Manhattan next week for Rutgers.

Sitting there in the stands by us was The Official Albert Williams Fan Club (TOAWFC). These girls were a trip and I hope to introduce myself to them sometime soon. I hearted them so! They kept calling Albert "Showtime!" As in "Okay, lets' go get them Showtime!" "Show em how it's done Showtime!" Some annoying Cooter fans started cheering "Cooters House!" behind us and TOAWFC would respond "TU House!" ...and back and forth they would go. It was like a live musical number from West Side Story.

Also, yours very truly, got to lead the homeside in The Hullabaloo with the absence of the Greenbackers. What an honor!

So next up Rutgers. and some totally devious Manhattan shopping. Watch out, Mrs. Hullabaloo is gonna sprout some horns!

Tailgating Rules

from Memphis Commercial Appeal. Coach Jim Pittman and two Greenwave football players graciously greeting Miss Liberty Bowl, Linda Thompson (future Miss Tennesse, girlfriend of Elvis and mother of Brandon Jenner)

I ran across this today

Virginia Tech VTcageTailg8ors Official Tailgating Etiquette

which I found hilarious. Luckily we have not gotten to the point of being out of hand at Tulane tailgating to warrent so many "official" rules created/enforced by individual tailgating clubs.

So I decided to comment upon them. What do you think?

P.S. This list is from the VTCageTailg8ors (I promise it is not mine. I do, however, claim the snarky comments).

1. Everyone is welcome to come and tailgate.
(mmmm...I don't know about that. We are snobs and I'm not embarrassed or ashamed to admit that. We have a weird sense of humor, so you need to have a very thick skin to fit in. You also need to be a foodie, this is a deal breaker on any invitation to join the Hullabaloo Huddlers. Also, trespassing on our tailgating space is verboten, that is some serious lack of manners to just squat in Peggy's Patio).

2. Everyone needs to help out by bringing food or financially assisting. It's not fair for a few individuals to always supply/prepare food for everyone. Suggested contribution if tailgating is $10 per game.
(Lord have mercy, this is New Orleans. When have you ever run out of food brought and generously shared at a gathering? I am usually the opposite and asking guests not to bring one more morsel. We tend to prepare obscenely generous quantities like it's the last meal for an army and share with strangers and friends alike. Most NOLA folk's tailgating supplies include mandatory ziplocks so that everybody can please take leftovers home with them, or you'll be reheating jambalaya until next football season. I can assure you that I will not show this list to Coach Hullabaloo or this last part of the rule will trigger some stupid idea on curtailing my tailgating spending. Seriously. Coach H used to host "Rent Parties" in college. You buy a keg of beer and then charge admission to your apartment (!). I was mortified to learn of such practices. I can assure you none of the Fiji, Sigma Chi, or Alpha Tau Omega boys I fraternized with EVER charged for their parties. )

3. Drinks out of the round silver cooler and kegerator are for everyone.
(fair enough, although we in New Orleans should have AA on speed dial, so there is always plenty of adult beverages to share).

4. When you arrive at the tailgate, chairs will be in the trailer. Chairs that have a red label around them are reserved chairs. Those that have a silver label are for general/public use. When you leave the tailgate, put your chair back into the trailer where you found it. You may store your tailgating chairs in the trailer, please make sure you put your name on the chair.
(what if I wanted to be ornery and use a fuscia label or something? anyways, all New Orleaneans keep folding chairs in their trunk ready at a moments notice because every weekend is a different festival, parade, game, crawfish or shrimp boil etc.)

5. We will start putting things back in the trailer approximately 45 minutes prior to kick-off of each game, PLEASE HELP WITH THE CLEANUP. Trailer doors will be locked 30 minutes prior to kick-off.
(I hope the designated driver is in charge of watching the time, cause we are usually having too much fun to be timing things with such precision).

6. Alcohol consumption is acceptable, but stupidity/out of control is not.(my one and only LSU game in which they were not playing Tulane, Coach Hullabaloo and I left about 3 minutes into the first quarter. Drunk is normal. Idiots are unacceptable. This one woman kept spitting daiqiuiri while screaming incomprehensibly while this other dude kept jumping around screaming "Who Let the Tigers Out?! Hoot! Hoot! Hoot!" to the chant of the Baja Men. ummm...quelle annoying. and they were both wearing jorts, ugly tee-shirts and crocs. which was both stupid and out of control just right there.)

7. No Smoking or cursing in the immediate area of the tailgate as we try to respect everyone
(also, no peeing on our cars. That applies to you Mesdemoiselles Co-Ed Underclassmen who get too drunk to stumble to the ample number of portolets paid for by Tulane. Because we aren't shy and will call you out and you will look stupid since everybody is watching you flash your cooter)

8. Please be respectful of everyone around. (If the jerk alert goes off, you will be asked to leave)
(ahem, COUGH, UofH and UCF peeps)

9. VTCAGETAILG8ORS is not responsible for any lost/stolen/damaged items left in the trailer.
(Koozie has got some stories to tell about some jacktard underclassmen that up and took our things during one of the games. So now everything just gets stored in cars and brought back out after the game.

10. Please RSVP by 12:00 pm Wednesday of each week if you plan on attending the tailgate for that Saturday. We want to ensure we have enough food for everyone.
(these tailgaters have clearly never received a Mrs. Hullabaloo mailed invitation creation to have to be giving out reminders about RSVPs)

11. If you see something that appears odd in or around the trailer, please question.
(at the Gormley tailgating, we caught a student's father come up and start making himself a bloody mary like we knew him or something. Friends and Friends of Friends are clearly always welcome, but if we don't know you, ummm...stay away. and much less make yourself a drink. We almost thought about instituting a bracelet policy. But usually we are all well-mannered and you know, make sure to introduce new peeps to all the regular Hullabaloo Huddlers so that we know who is who)

12. If you don’t see something, just ask.
(I do not see a special teams coach. or a new offensive play caller. while I'm at it, I don't see an indoor practice faility or an on-campus stadium)

13. If you see an area of improvement let's discuss...
(see #12)

14. Everyone needs to attempt an Irish Car Bomb during the season :)
(I raise you that Irish Car Bomb and give you The Koozie White Russian)

15. Have fun and Go Hokies!
(phew, I was going to ask if FUN was allowed here)

The Koozie White Russian
Extra Large Stadium Cup
Drink Ice (VERY important, regular cooler ice is just sub-par)
Browns Dairy Half+Half
Whipped Cream in a Can
Vodka
Kahlua

White Trash

When I started commenting out in the internets, letting my thoughts be known far and wide, it was mainly to salute this time honored tradition of intense humidity, parking lot hostessing, and my beloved Greenwave football, which I love so dear.

From time to time, Mrs. Hullabaloo might not be restrained in her assesments. I want all of my dear readers and fans to feel my raw and unfiltered enthusiasm for Game Day at Tulane Nation. Moses needs to add to the tablet "An Opportunity for a Party Should Never Pass." No matter how poorly your coach performs. and Moses, please also maybe add a short footnote in there about gossipping about our opponents. You know, that it's Okay. We aren't evil.

Apparently, the Houston Cooter fan who trolls around on our boards was so BURNED I had the nerve to point out the obvious and call their team trashy - a year ago - that he had to come back in 2009 and post this little gem. Just for little ole me, imagine!
"MsHullabaloo, I promised you this would be named after you for all of you derogatory spew months back. I quit rooting for Tulanes (sp) return to greatness and now hope the program goes belly up... Too bad the coogs didn't run it up... Live in misery MsHullabaloo... :D"
I welcome his hate mail because - despite Mr. Cooter Fan's attempted adeptness at social etiquette by using the neutral "Ms" - his message shows not only his neglect of proper punctuation and failure at posessives: it also shows just how classless those trashy Cooter fans really are. Well maybe he typo'd and missed the "r." I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Bottom line is this: They can pretend by trying to hide their sharpie eyebrow fan-ettes back at home. But they aren't going to fool Mrs. Hullabaloo that they might have a modicum of upbringing and pedigree.

I am time tested. Mrs. Hullabaloo was a rush adviser for her sorority. I can spot a fake before she even rounds the corner into our clapping parlors.

I have to say, I did not hear one peep out of those guys at tailgating and I had high hopes for game time (unlike wheelchair man at baseball who we almost rumbled with when he started cheering Hullabaloo). We did have some toothless people who claimed to be locals randomly come by our tent and announce that they were friends or family of someone with the Cooter marching band and that's why they were in red. I'm not sure if Mr. and Mrs. Hullabaloo looked like they cared or somehow appeared to be the official welcoming committee, but we nodded politely and then, you know, talked about them after they left.

Sadly, I think they put a hex on our tent, because a wind up and came and blew it in half. Bye bye Tent. We mourned you so. Worthy of a Jazz Funeral. Ye Who Hosted So Much Glee and Daylight Drunkeness. Ah, but just one more sacrifice to the Tailgating Gods. Just means we have to buy a new one! Shopping!

I was ALMOST impressed by the Cooter restraint and congeniality. But they just couldn't control themselves. As you can see by their written correspondence.

The Greenwave came out and played some impressive first half football. We held the Cooters to 3 points before we scored 2 field goals for a 6-3 lead. At which point, Mr. Hullabaloo went to get a beer. Some Classy Cooter fan sitting in 144 called out to us, "Leaving Already?!!" Clearly he doesn't understand Mr. and Mrs. Hullabaloo's resilience. So Mr. Hullabaloo pointed to the scoreboard said, "On my way to get a beer, cause we're winning!!!" Well, Mr. Hullabaloo done went and did it. Classy Cooter fan went BEZERK. Screaming behind us like they're taught to do at Houston. Next he dropped his drawers and started digging in to the entire 144 section with incomprehensible gibberish. That lasted all of about a minute cause he and his little friend got bounced by the cops. Hope he had a delightful weekend stay at Central Lockup. We were sad Classy Cooter did not get to stay and watch the Houston kicks go "dink" against our goal posts. 3 times!

Well despite such exemplary behavior from the Cooters, we here at Tulane-nation do not wish any of our fellow opponents "to live in misery." Yes, we are burdened by knowing we are the only lucky ones who live in this fabulous city bestowed upon our great nation, A Crown Jewel City. We are alummni, followers and supporters of the Greatest College EVER. Indisputably. Beer in The Rat? Mardi Gras? Football? and Marines? Sounds like a winning combination to me, where do I sign? said the former Miss Hullabaloo back in the day.

It is indeed a chore to get up each morning as The Chosen Ones. It is our burden to bear. We know you are ALL mercilessly jealous about your sad little predicament of life. But that is why we invite you to come to our fair city and play in our fabulous NFL caliber stadium.

If out of ALL of the opponents on the Cooter schedule, you valued Mrs. Hullabaloo's opinion the most, well, quite frankly I am Flattered!

Let me tell you, I have to mention I was also SO very impressed with the Marshall contingent, except for that cheap shot horse collar on Peyton Jason at the end of the game. Requiring a new tendon from a cadaver as replacement. That glaring episode aside, their coaches did not get ejected from the stadium for being idiots, their players did not flip the bird to Tulane fans, they did not spit on the turf. This year anyways. I think Tulane manners might be rubbing off, there has clearly been some improvement. There might be something to this C-USA thing. Put all of the derelicts with folks that have some manners and education, shake it up and see what happens.

Speaking of shaking it up...Nell provided us with THE most awesome of awesome-est dessert at Homecoming.

Don't you worry Hullabaloo Fans! Mrs. Hullabaloo has got some stories about Homecoming. Our homecoming-worthy festivities made the NEWS! We were broadcast far and wide across 3 parishes (!) Squeal! Just waiting on the video and pictures to share.

But I digress, Nell's White Trash
Cheerios
Rice Chex
Corn Chex
M&M's in green and blue (this is a MUST)
Almonds and Cashews
Small twisty pretzels
White chocolate chips
smidge oil
Put white chocolate in a heat-resistant bowl and place over another pot with simmering water. Drizzle a little bit of oil and slowly melt the white chocolate. Combine all of the dry ingredients and pour melted chocolate over them and then stir. Spread out on a baking sheet with wax paper to cool. Break it all up, put into a cute bag and tie with a cute ribbon.

Serve and become The Official Tailgatress for your tailgating nation. Far and Wide. Get yourself a crown. I am serious!

The Dome Grove

2010 Tulane Greenwave opens at the dome against Ole Miss!

I'm really excited about this series since it will bring a much needed injection of class from those who set the standard in Stylish Tailgating. It will be a nice upgrade from the sharpie eyebrowed fans from University of Houston who dress like they just got off a shift balancing from a pole.

I'll get to break out my acrylic deviled egg platter for that delightful Southern outdoor picnic tradition. Mrs. Hullabaloo has all manner of tailgate friendly serving pieces for proper tailgating etiquette.

There is one thing I cannot tolerate and that is sloppily prepared functions (and trashy Houston fans, but I digress). That and bad grocery store or heated Sam's food served at parties (why bother inviting folks over for canned garbage?). Mr. and Mrs. Hullabaloo's biggest marital argument was the first year hosting Thanksgiving. I refused to degrade Thanksgiving dinner by serving 7 layer dip and green bean caserole. Not exactly how I pictured my first major dinner party with the thought of opening up canned goo and serving with tortilla chips on my Waterford china. How gauche and very un-Newcomb ladylike. Mrs. Hullabaloo has since perfected the elegant frizzled leak, portabella mushroom and sherry version of green beans.

Mrs. Hullabaloo was raised by a mother who set formal place settings at every meal. We "dined" at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every day. No grabbing a sandwich with a paper towel in front of the tee-vee and everyone eating in all manner of vestments and at the time of their leisure. Momma Hullabaloo didn't actually cook mind you and she would order a complete Turkey dinner from a caterer every Thanksgiving. But every meal was properly served. and well, it's rubbed off.

I've been perusing the internet tubes for interesting recipes to spice up the traditional mayo/mustard/s&p/relish/paprika combo. Like a splash of vinegar, chopped shallots or chives, truffle salt (anything with truffle is like OMG in Mrs. Hullabaloo's world).

Will keep you posted on the experimentation with deviled eggs!

Stay Classy Greenwave Nation and party on.

"First we'll out think you, then we'll out drink you!"
